CCS NHD 2017-2018 Highlights of Tasks and Events
Creating an NHD project is a step by step process. Each step is vital to creating a quality project. This outline highlights the tasks needed to complete your project. Read the detailed Timeline for specific details related to each of the tasks and there due dates. To introduce and guide you through each step we have created the CCS NHD Website. Use http://demchakmj2015.weebly.com/ and nhd.org National History Day’s website as you work on each step. They will save you time and provide instruction for each step. Your work will be evaluated and you will receive feedback on your progress on each of the tasks that begin with “Complete”.

- NHD Workshop August 17/18, 2017 Begin using NHD Website
- Understanding the Theme Taking a Stand in History
- Examine various topics looking for one that you are passionate about.
September 2017
- *Complete the “picking a topic worksheet”-September 7th
- Decide on working individually or with a partner (needs my approval)
- *Begin research of secondary and primary sources. Begin reading approved secondary source. “Topic Proposal” and “Secondary Source Approval”-Due September 14
- Begin using noodletools.com
- Continue researching your topic’s primary and secondary sources recording them on noodletools
- Complete reading at least one good secondary source for historical context
- *Complete “Research Checklist” Due-Oct 5, 2016
- *Complete “Research Analysis Checkpoint #1” Due November 2nd
- *Present “3 minute oral presentation” to the class which includes a “rough draft of your thesis statement.” Due November 7th
- Continue researching your topic
- Complete the first draft of your thesis statement Due November 14
- *Complete “Research Analysis Checkpoint #2” Due November 16
- *Complete Interview form-Due November 23
- *Finish researching your topic “Completing Research Analysis Questionnaire” due Dec 7
- Continue working on your annotated bibliography using noodletools
- *Complete “Annotated Bibliography” Phase 1and 2 Due December 14th
- Begin building your project according to its category
- Introduction to the components of the 500 word Process Paper
- Create your project
- *Complete a rough draft of your “Process Paper” and “Annotated Bibliography” and a “rough draft of your project” (exhibit, url of website or script of documentary or performance) Due Jan 4th
- Revise your Annotated Bibliography and Process Paper following teacher comments.
- *Complete your “Process Paper” and “Annotated Bibliography” Due February 1st via email.
- Complete and Present your project at CCS’s National History Day competition February 8, 2018
- Students that qualify compete in District 3 History Day March 3, 2018
- Registration Deadline is February 1, 2018
- Paper and Documentary electronic submissions - February 16, 2018
- Website Lockout - February 16, 2018
- Students that qualify compete in Ohio History Day Competition-April 28, 2018
- National NHD Competition in Washington, DC June 10-14
